Rosedean Shetland Cattle

About us

Based on a 12 acre smallholding near Carnoustie, Angus, the Rosedean herd of Shetland cattle was established in 2010 with the purchase of two Shetland-bred dun and white heifers, Beadies Breeze and Beadies Blizzard.

Since then, up to and including summer 2016, fourteen calves have been born – eight bulls and six heifers. We are expecting three calves in June 2017.

Three of the heifers – Rosedean Santa Ana ( Annie, 2012), Rosedean Umber (Rosie, 2014) and Rosedean Windward (Winnie, 2016) – remain in the herd, with Beadies Blizzard.

Six of the bull calves have been retained as steers for beef production while two, Rosedean Valiant and Rosedean Viento, have been sold for breeding.

In 2015, we started hand milking Blizzard and Annie and machine milked Blizzard, Annie and Rosie in 2016. Mostly we drank the milk but also made small quanities of cheese.

We sometimes have cattle and beef for sale.

We are happy to welcome visitors to see the cattle, by arrangement.
